Working at Mt Ruapehu, you'll be surrounded by like-minded people who are committed to caring for people and place. Our entire whānau play key roles in delivering inspiring, empowering and exceptional experiences whether it's for our manuhiri or our team. Delivering on our values means being at our peak and we're here to support you in your role with us.

Everyone here shares a passion for the maunga and the surrounding region because of the endless possibilities for adventure. Whether it's because you love nature, the truly unique world heritage area, there are opportunities to contribute at every turn.

Working in the Food & Beverage department, no two days will be the same. This position offers variety, working across both the Pataka Cafe and Pinnacles Buffet Restaurant. As well as providing an efficient and professional service to all guests, you will need to:

  • Competently operate a cash register and EFTPOS system as required.
  • Ensure service is in accordance with or exceeds the guests expectations, and that orders are processed accurately and in a timeframe that optimised service quality.
  • Prepare and maintain the café seating areas and counter spaces to ensure they are ready for food service and are visually appealing.
  • Ensure all rubbish and recycling is removed from storage locations to disposal areas and distributed correctly.
  • Apply knowledge of hygiene and safety when it comes to preparing and storing food.
  • Assist in the transporting of the café product.
  • Maintain cleanliness around café entrances and outdoor areas, ensuring snow and ice is cleared and the areas are safe and accessible for guests.
  • Assist in other departments as required.
  • Perform any other duties as required by the Food & Beverage supervisors and Head of Department.

DOES THIS SOUND LIKE YOU?

Experience with cash handling is an advantage, as is previous experience in a similar role, but not necessary. Full training is provided if you're successful in joining the whanau. We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Ability to build effective working relationships with a wide range of people.
  • Respond in a positive and proactive manner to feedback from supervisors and/or Head of Departments.
  • Maintain an approachable and co-operative persona with co-workers and guests, both internal and external.
  • Commitment to a strong guest service ethic.
  • Punctual and reliable.
  • High energy levels.

Working with us brings with it some pretty cool benefits, and we think we're a pretty awesome team to spend your days with. Joining the Ruapehu whanau, you will also need to share a set of values that helps make us who we are. We are guided by the principle of upholding the mana of the maunga through Manaakitanga (for people), Kaitiakitanga (for place) and Kotahitanga (together as one) so being able to work alongside others productively, create meaningful connections with everyone, and support our role as kaitiki is essential for success.

Summer roles are likely to start from 19th December and go through to April 2023. Shorter contracts for peak periods may also be available.
Transport from local centres may be available along with accommodation.
