Maintenance & Asset Manager
Tekapo Springs | Lake Tekapo, Canterbury
A technical leadership opportunity in an extraordinary location
Lead the maintenance and asset management of a facility that combines industrial refrigeration, water treatment, mechanical and electrical infrastructure, ice skating and snow-making systems, all set against the stunning backdrop of Lake Tekapo.
This is an opportunity for an experienced maintenance or engineering professional who enjoys technical variety, wants to influence how assets are managed and is looking for a rewarding role in one of New Zealand's most remarkable locations.
Tekapo Springs is an established and growing tourism destination welcoming more than 180,000 visitors each year. With continued investment in facilities and attractions, we're looking for a Maintenance & Asset Manager to take ownership of our maintenance and asset management function and help shape its future.
The Opportunity
This is much more than keeping equipment running.
You'll have the opportunity to strengthen how maintenance is planned and delivered, develop asset management systems, improve plant reliability and energy efficiency, and contribute to decisions around future capital investment.
The operating environment is unusually diverse, combining complex engineering systems with the practical requirements of a busy, seven-day tourism operation.
It's a role that offers both strategic responsibility and the opportunity to remain close to the technical operation. You'll need to understand the equipment, work effectively with contractors and operational teams, and make sound decisions that balance reliability, safety, cost and the guest experience.
For someone who enjoys building better systems, solving problems and seeing the results of their work, there's plenty here to get involved in.
The Role
Reporting within the Tekapo Springs management structure, you'll take responsibility for the maintenance, reliability and lifecycle management of the site's plant, equipment and facilities.
Your key areas of focus will include:
• Maintenance leadership: Lead maintenance activities, improve planning and develop a proactive approach to equipment reliability and preventative maintenance.
• Asset management: Develop asset management plans, maintain accurate equipment records and establish long-term replacement and renewal programmes.
• Technical oversight: Coordinate the maintenance and performance of refrigeration, water treatment, mechanical, electrical and specialised recreation equipment.
• Continuous improvement: Identify opportunities to improve plant efficiency, reduce energy consumption and minimise unplanned downtime.
• Capital planning: Evaluate asset condition, identify future investment requirements and prepare recommendations and business cases.
• Safety and compliance: Ensure plant, facilities and maintenance activities meet the relevant safety, regulatory and operational requirements.
You'll play an important role in ensuring Tekapo Springs continues to provide a safe, reliable and high-quality experience for its visitors.
What You'll Bring
We're looking for someone with a strong maintenance or engineering background who can combine technical understanding with effective planning, commercial judgement and practical leadership.
You may currently be working as a Maintenance Manager, Engineering Manager, Facilities Manager or in a senior maintenance or asset management role.
Ideally, you'll bring:
• Experience managing maintenance and plant reliability within an industrial, commercial, facilities or tourism environment.
• A relevant trade or engineering background, potentially in mechanical, electrical, refrigeration or process plant maintenance.
• Strong experience developing and managing planned maintenance programmes, ideally using a CMMS.
• An understanding of asset lifecycle management, maintenance budgeting and capital planning.
• The ability to coordinate contractors, manage technical priorities and work effectively with operational teams.
• A practical approach to problem-solving, with the confidence to make sound decisions in a busy operating environment.
Experience with industrial refrigeration, water treatment, snow-making equipment or winter recreation facilities would be particularly valuable, but we recognise that good engineering and maintenance management skills can be developed in many industries.
Above all, you'll be someone who takes ownership, enjoys improving how things work and can balance immediate operational demands with longer-term asset performance.
A Great Place to Work. An Exceptional Place to Live.
Lake Tekapo offers something increasingly difficult to find: a rewarding technical leadership role combined with an outstanding lifestyle.
Surrounded by mountains, lakes and expansive natural landscapes, the Mackenzie Basin provides access to walking, cycling, fishing, skiing and a wide range of outdoor activities.
Away from the larger cities, it's an opportunity to enjoy a different pace of life without stepping away from a challenging and meaningful career.
Tekapo Springs also offers a competitive remuneration and benefits package including:
• Base salary and team incentives.
• Staff accommodation.
• Use of a work vehicle.
• Free or discounted access to site facilities and attractions.
• Welcome grocery card and long-service bonus.
• Annual health checks, flu vaccinations and free parking.
• Volunteer leave and regular staff events.
