House & Farm Sitter Wanted – Hinds, Mid Canterbury

We are a family of five living and farming in rural Canterbury and are looking for a responsible and caring person or couple to look after our home and animals while we are away mid July - mid August. 

I am originally from Germany and have been living in New Zealand for over 20 years. We have always enjoyed meeting travellers and have had wonderful experiences hosting people from around the world over the years.

We live on a working pig farm in Hinds, surrounded by open space, mountain views, and the peace and quiet of rural Canterbury. One of our farm workers lives in a separate cottage on the property, so there is usually someone nearby if needed. We also always have other workers on the farm. 

Your main role would be to care for our animals, keep our dogs company, look after our home, water the plants, and treat the property with the same care and respect that you would your own. Our animals are very much part of the family and include two friendly dogs, two cats, two budgies, two horses, two goats, and a variety of poultry. The daily routine is straightforward and would suit someone who enjoys animals and country life.

The house-sitting position is unpaid, but accommodation is provided in a cosy private sleepout. You will have access to unlimited WiFi, electricity, and are welcome to help yourself to the food we have in the freezer, fridge, and pantry. This could be an ideal opportunity for travellers looking for a comfortable and peaceful place to stay for a longer period, particularly during the winter months.

For the right applicant, there may also be opportunities to assist with farm work during your stay. Any farm work would be completely optional and paid separately.

We are looking for someone who is reliable, trustworthy, and comfortable living in a rural setting. In return, you'll get to experience life on a New Zealand farm, enjoy the company of some wonderful animals, and spend time in a beautiful part of Canterbury.
